Phil Baxter
Phil moved south from Yorkshire via Manchester where he studied for his BA (Hons) Band Musicianship at Salford University, and PGCE at Manchester Metropolitan University. He now teaches Music, Expressive Arts and ICT at Bexhill High School. A quiet chap with a wry sense of humour, he lives in Eastbourne and travels furthest (with his brother Andrew) to play with ConChord.
John Forrester
With his Steve Martin hair, John is easy to spot in a crowd especially at a Crystal Palace soccer match. Living in Haywards Heath he is employed by the Health Authority as a Dental Practice Manager and likes to get his teeth into the music of Jethro Tull, a throwback to his past. Being a Forrester, he is a huge fan of Woody Herman, as well as other big band greats.
Phil Laybourn
The band elected Phil as their bandleader in February 2008 and his leadership and musical direction of ConChord has proved to be a great success. By night a member of the trombone section and by day a landscape gardener!
When not playing with ConChord he is a busy musician playing for whoever needs a trombone player in local pit orchestras, Symphony orchestras and big bands. A Musical Director for local amateur operatic shows he studied Bass trombone at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, he plays tenor trombone with us. His usually weary look disguises his prowess on his instrument and his ability to lift heavy speakers and amps, which first attracted us to him.
Colin Head
Recently joined ConChord as our bass trombonist, and is reliable and dedicated and therefore a very welcome addition to the band. Being ready to travel form his home in Worthing, where he plays with other more local big bands, shows just how keen he is to feature with ConChord and put that bass line into the section.
