Vicky Osborne- Alto Sax
Vicky is a qualified music teacher and lives in East Grinstead. She has been with the band for twelve years and rarely misses a rehearsal or gig and is one of the setup crew. She also plays with the East Sussex Concert Band, a clarinet quartet and a funk/soul band. Additional instruments – Soprano and Tenor sax, Flute and Clarinet. Enjoys all kinds of music and eating Bridget’s fine cooking!
Carol Baker - Alto Sax
Carol played violin for 20 years with the Croydon Symphony Orchestra.
She attended the Royal College of Music studying clarinet and piano but was always an avid big band music fan. After three years of watching ConChord at concerts, she asked to sit in at rehearsals and by chance a vacancy came up, now she is a valued member of the band
Alan Sandilands - Tenor Sax
Alan has been a friend of the band since it's early days, deputising many times on Alto/Tenor and Baritone Saxes. He joined the band on a full time basis in November 2005 in the roll of 1st Tenor, doubling Flute and Clarinet. Alan spent two years in the U.S.A. and Canada in the 1960's working as a Mechanical Design Engineer and playing Sax evenings and weekends and claims to have full immunity to Haemorrhoids!
Nick Cullen - Tenor Sax
Nick switched from clarinet to alto sax aged 13, and learnt the ropes in the military and swing bands at Christ’s Hospital School. He played into his mid 20’s, but when family life took over Nick’s sax playing went on to the back burner for 15 or so years. He says he’s now thrilled to be playing tenor in such a great band again. Nick enjoys listening to jazz, funk, and rhythm and blues music, and is a fluent speaker of French and German.
David Brown - Baritone Sax
David was asked to join the band on tenor for its second ever rehearsal, and has played with it for periods since, as his musical and domestic commitments have allowed. His musical taste ranges from Debussy and Ravel to Tower of Power, with cool and smooth jazz in between. He has performed with orchestras, chamber groups, Dixieland bands, big bands, and played for hundreds of society parties and balls. In his latest incarnation with ConChord, he is on baritone, but plays all the saxes and clarinet.
